Amazon unveils largest Echo Show yet

Amazon has introduced its largest Echo Show smart display yet, expanding its lineup with the Echo Show 21. The device joins the recently updated Echo Show 15, which now includes wall-mounting options. Both models cater to users looking for larger screens to manage video, calendars, and smart home control, though they differ in features and intended use.

The Echo Show 21, priced at $399.99, features a 21-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. While this matches the resolution of the smaller Echo Show 15, the larger screen offers more space for content such as streaming videos or viewing news segments from CBS, FOX, or NBC. The Echo Show 15, available for $299.99, maintains the same resolution but adds wall-mounting capabilities for kitchen or living room setups. The Echo Show 15’s design, originally introduced in 2021, was tailored for environments where a fixed position—such as a kitchen—could benefit from a larger interface, featuring jumbo-sized widgets and a screen large enough for extended streaming sessions.
Amazon improved the Echo Show 15’s audio performance to address past criticisms. A 2022 review highlighted weak audio and a low-resolution screen, but these updates aim to close that gap. Both models now support Zigbee radios, addressing a key limitation of the earlier model, which relied on external hubs for full smart home compatibility, unlike the Echo Plus, Echo Studio, and Echo Show 10, which included Zigbee support natively.

Camera upgrades include an enhanced auto-framing system with double the field of view and 65% more zoom. Noise reduction technology should enhance video call clarity. Accessories like wall-mount kits and a premium counter stand are now available for purchase, with a frame accessory (light brown or white) sold separately for $34.99 and a “premium” counter stand priced at $99.99. These additions provide users with greater flexibility in installation and aesthetics, though the frame accessory is marketed as an optional upgrade rather than a standard inclusion.
A competing product, the Skylight Calendar Max ($600), offers a 27-inch screen but lacks speakers and a camera. It focuses on tasks like tracking appointments, to-do lists, chore charts, meal planning, and shopping lists. This design emphasizes task management over multimedia or communication, positioning it as a niche option for users who prioritize calendar and list tracking over video, audio, or smart home integration. In contrast, the Echo Show 21 and 15 balance size, audio, and smart home capabilities, making them more versatile for a broader range of use cases.

Users will need to wait for full reviews to assess how these changes stack up against competitors. Once the devices undergo extended testing, full assessments will be published, providing insights into their performance relative to other smart displays and home assistants in the market.
